MEN AGAINST RAPE
The movement shall emphasise the importance of consent and the responsibilities that each sexual partner has to the other. It shall enforce the” no means no” message and persuade men to respect the boundaries drawn by the opposite sex and make unequivocal consent mandatory before engaging in sexual activity.
What role do men play in the fight against sexual assault?

Incidents of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) are at an alarming rise. Although it is true that men also fall victims, women suffer at an astronomic level. SGBV poses grave psychosocial consequences for all society with no gender exempted. While there is a general outcry over the rising cases, there is still a yawning gap between rhetoric and concrete action. Several advocacy and interventions undertaken by Make A Difference Initiative (M.A.D) have given insight to the fact that a lot more work needs to be done if we are to curb the menace of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in our society. Engaging the praxis of Participatory Communication and Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) are thus essential in helping to change nuances, prejudices and mind-sets that make men sexualize women and feel a sense of entitlement to their bodies. It is against this backdrop that Make A Difference Initiative (MAD) has birthed this Movement – Men Against Rape. The movement shall be a strategic mass movement of men of diverse background and career – journalists, lawyers, business men, traders, governors, lawmakers, labourers who are committed to work towards curbing Sexual and Gender Based Violence in their communities and the nation at large.
OUR GOAL
Our goal is to raise a fine pool of male champions dedicated to ridding the society of paedophiles and other SGBV perpetrators by educating them on the gravity of SGBV and ways to prevent it as well as empower them to replicate these lessons among other men in the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to give informative, discussion-based presentations to better educate our male peers about the realities of sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV). Through participatory communication and Behaviour Change Communication, the movement shall be highlighting the implications of the moral and ethical choices that an individual makes when engaging in sexual activity.
The movement shall emphasise the importance of consent and the responsibilities that each sexual partner has to the other. It shall enforce the” no means no” message and persuade men to respect the boundaries drawn by the opposite sex and make unequivocal consent mandatory before engaging in sexual activity.
The message must be LOUD and CLEAR that all women are entitled to the freedom of choice and any act that takes away their freedom to choose whether or not they wish to engage in a sexual activity is tantamount to rape.
